Hi, I am Andrea Gruetzner, currently living and working as an artist between Berlin and New York.⁠

I am interested in how we perceive spaces, both contextually and visually. My pictures sometimes appear as straight photographs, painting or collage and focus on our built environment. They simultaneously reference my personal perception of these spaces and their histories and also speak to a more general sense of the ways in which architecture affects behaviour, emotions, and memory and, ultimately, a collective identity. In my creative export I am exploring various terms and concepts of abstraction, from which, I expect, very different stylistic and aesthetic works can develop.⁠

-Why photography?⁠

⁠

Photography is a complex field of possibilities with fundamental documentary properties. It is a medium with which one can document, concentrate, manipulate, irritate, exaggerate, flatter, and play. And time and again it is being used to touch the invisible and make it visible. The world, the message, and the content change through minute movements and decisions and still photography's indexicality is referencing a spatial and temporal relationship.⁠
