SOUND ART IN COLLABORATION WITH NOTAM

ABSORPTION AND RESONANCE

NOTAM's sound art exhibition Absorption and Resonance has been developed from the sound art competition that NOTAM initiated approximately one year ago, and where Øystein Wyller Odden's work Stone Piece was selected as the winner.

The work is based on the sound of a breaking window, which has been
recorded, stretched and transcribed for a string quartet. The glass
(actually one of the Art Centre's original doors from 1968) is
displayed in the exhibition. In all, the contributions to the
competition were very interesting, thus making the creation of a full-
scale exhibition unavoidable. The artists represented are:

Bjørn Askefoss - Muliot

Siri Austeen - Sounds like Vågan

Christin Bermudez - Bestiarum Digitalis -the fantastical beasts' zoo-

Emil Bernhardt - Wittgenstein Chairs

Espen Sommer Eide - Karusell

Bjørn Haugen - Transfer

Ewa Jacobsson - A Liar's Map

Stian Skagen and Monica Winther - The inward Rising

Øyvind Torvund - Transporting Rituals

The work Muliot by Bjørn Askefoss is a commission from NOTAM, and is
shown from December 18, 2008 to January 25, 2009.

In conjunction with the exhibition, NOTAM is producing an extended
catalogue. The catalogue is printed in two languages - Norwegian and
English - and includes, in addition to texts on the exhibited works,
a number of texts that discuss the genre sound art in greater detail.

The project is realized with support from Arts Council Norway, The
Freedom of Expression Foundation, The Audiovisual Fund and The
Norwegian Museum of Cultural History.
