KURT SCHWITTERS IN NORWAY
OCTOBER 1 - JANUARY 17, 2010
The Merz artist Kurt Schwitters (1887-1948) is regarded today as one of the most influential and innovative artists in the field of experimental art during the twentieth century. From his roots in Dadaism, he was to make his mark on Surrealism and, later, on artists belonging to groups and movements such as Nouveau Rèalisme and Fluxus during the nineteen-sixties and seventies. Today, there is a renewed interest in his work, not least among young artists.

HØVIKODDEN LIVE 2009
TO BE HEARD IS TO BE SEEN
AUGUST 30 - NOVEMBER 1, 2009
"HØVIKODDEN LIVE 2009: To be Heard is to be Seen" will be an investigation into the power of the voice as a performative element in music and as a visual component of pictorial art. The exhibition seeks to integrate music, performance and visual arts by means of a number of events of limited duration, such as audiocinema, concerts and performance art in the exhibition room, in addition to static works of art. In so doing, it aims to shed light on the function of the concept "live" in the art institution of today.
THE ART OF TOMORROW TODAY
SELECTED WORKS FROM THE COLLECTION
MARCH 7 - OCTOBER 4, 2009
The Henie Onstad Art Centres collection, which has grown from the collection originally donated to the Art Centre by Sonja Henie and Niels Onstad, now comprises over 4000 works covering most of the 20th century and representing a diversity of artistic idioms and techniques. The works selected for this exhibition exemplify the trends inherent in the donators core collection.
JEAN TINGUELY
APRIL 2 - AUGUST 2, 2009
"Movement" is a key concept when it comes to the Swiss artist Jean Tinguely (1925-1991). For the very first time in Norway, an exhibition devoted entirely to his works is being held at the Henie Onstad Art Centre. Early on in his career, Tinguely began experimenting with engines and electrical devices. This retrospective exhibition presents radio sculptures, apparatus you can cycle on, kinetic reliefs, machines that eject balls into the air and a number of "social events", involving self-destructing, mechanical sculptures that go up in smoke and fireworks.
HÅKON BLEKEN
CHARCOAL DRAWINGS 1962-2008
JANUARY 8 - APRIL 19, 2009
A major, retrospective exhibition of Bleken's charcoal drawings. Works by Håkon Bleken were last shown at the Henie Onstad Art Centre 34 years ago in 1974, an exhibition that also featured his charcoal drawings. This time, works from the early 1960s up until 2009 are on display, and Bleken has created a series of new drawings especially for the occasion.
